Melissa Berke studied the mineralogy and geochemistry of uranium in the Tono area of central Japan.

Characterization of U distribution and fixation in the sediments and volcanics at Tono is relevant to the disposal of high-level nuclear waste.

Melissa used petrographic, XRD, SEM, BSE and TEM techniques to resolve the U mineralogy and geochemistry at Tono.

Melissa is now enrolled in the Ph.D. program at the University of Minnesota.
